Makaiah and Puppies – Day 9

Hard to believe our precious pups are 9 days old today! Makaiah stays with her pups most of the time, nursing them often and getting some rest. We try to give her a “mommy break” now and then by giving her a rub down, going outside, or up on the couch – but it doesn’t last very long and then she wants and cries to be with her puppies again. The puppies love to cuddle with each other, keeping warm and sleeping. What a SIGHT this is! All of the puppies are definitely growing. This first stage of 9 to 10 days since birth is critical – a lot of work, not much sleep, a big responsibility, but so exciting and fun.

Makaiah and Puppies – Day 8

Makaiah’s appetite is huge due to nursing her 8 beautiful puppies. She really loves and enjoys her ground turkey, cottage cheese and hard boiled egg each day. She has already lost all of her pregnancy weight. We women only wish we could do the same! Our black and white male pup with the awesome black masking now weighs 11.3 ounces. He is very easy going and enjoys being held and cuddled. Our little Missy now weighs 7.8 ounces. We are enjoying every minute spent with them!

Makaiah and Puppies – Day 7

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! One week old today. What a wonderful, emotional, excitiing week this has been for Makaiah and all of us here at Sherry’s Precious Puppies. It is so hard to believe that our Shih Poo pups are already 7 days old! They sure have grown and changed during this short time. Each pup is getting stronger and more active and is uniquely marked. We are most excited about our male and female Shih Poo that are all white with their left ear black. They both look so similar but the male is a little larger. Makaiah sure had a beautiful litter of Shih Poo pups. Today all of us are celebrating!

Makaiah and Puppies – Day 6

Makaiah’s milk is now in and boy are our tiny Shih Poo pups happy! They all have good appetites and suckle well. Our 2 Male pups now weigh 10.2 ounces and 12.4 ounces! Our little Missy (most petite) now weighs 7.6 ounces and 6 inches long. She has come a long way from birth when she weighed only 4.8 ounces. Every pup is doing well, moving around, sleeping a lot and gain weight each day. All of our pups are receiving 1 drop of “Puppy Vitamins” from a dropper every morning. They seem to enjoy it except our 1 all white male fights me EVERY TIME! He seems to have a mind of his own.

Makaiah and Puppies – Day 5

Makaiah took a 30 minutes nap on the couch to rest and recover a little. Motherhood is very exhausting, breastfeeding night and day on demand. She goes pee outside then runs back to her puppies! Makaiah is such a good Mommy! The only ones getting LOTS of sleep around here are in the whelping box! (The Tiny Shih Poo Puppies)

Makaiah and Puppies – Day 4

Shih Poo pups are 4 days old today. They are suckling well and gaining weight every day. The colostrum from Makaiah gives each puppy valuable immunity against many canine diseases. Makaiah’s nipples are enlarged and milk will be in soon. The pup’s eyelids and ear canals are sealed closed for now but their sense of smell of their Mommy is great. We are having fun cuddling each puppy 2-3 times each day which helps their emotional needs later in life.
